Frequently
Asked Tax Questions
|
 |
| |
How
are ETFs on specific industry or market sectors taxed? |
| |
| Answer: |
The general
rule is that the tax treatment of the underlying sector of the
ETF determines tax treatment of the ETF itself. For example, Currency
ETF’s are treated as ordinary income just like its FOREX
counterpart. Futures ETF’s receive the same treatment section
1256 contract tax treatment as futures on commodities and futures
on FOREX.
